Moulton served in the United States Marine Corps from 2001 to 2008. He was in the first company of Marines to enter Baghdad in 2003, and in 2004 Moulton led a platoon during the Battle of Najaf. In 2005, and in the Surge of 2007, he worked on a small team of Marines leading counterinsurgency operations south of Baghdad. During this time he served as a Special Assistant to General Petraeus. In 2014, Moulton was elected to Congress where he currently serves on the House Armed Services Committee, the House Budget Committee, and the House Small Business Committee.
This event is part of the Atlantic Council's Strategy Initiative and the Brent Scowcroft Center on International Security's flagship series, "America's Role in the World." The Strategy Initiative seeks to encourage and support a more constructive and substantive public dialogue on US strategy in a complex and dynamic world.
