On Tuesday, July 14, at 3:00 p.m. ET, the Atlantic Council’s Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center will host an in-person conversation with Colombian Vice President-elect José Manuel Restrepo, Minister-designate of Finance and Public Credit Miguel Gómez Martínez, and Minister-designate of Commerce, Industry, and Tourism Mauricio Gómez Amín.
As Colombia prepares for a new administration to take office on August 7, the suspension of the technical handover process, amid tensions with the outgoing government, has added uncertainty to the final weeks before the inauguration of President-elect Abelardo de la Espriella. The conversation will examine how the new government plans to navigate this moment and advance its economic agenda.
The Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center has been closely tracking Colombia’s elections, including an analysis of de la Espriella’s victory, an issue brief on security priorities informed by the US-Colombia Strategic Alignment Coalition, and public conversations with US senators Bernie Moreno (R-OH) and Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) on the future of US-Colombia relations.
New policy: In-person attendees will be required to show photo ID upon arrival, and no on-site registration will be permitted. Guests will not be admitted later than twenty minutes after the event’s start time.
