Colombia’s Vice President-elect José Manuel Restrepo and Foreign Minister-designate Omar Bula Escobar discuss the incoming administration’s plans and priorities ahead of the August 7 inauguration.

On Tuesday, July 14, at 3:00 p.m. ET, the Atlantic Council’s Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center will host an in-person conversation with Colombia’s Vice President-elect José Manuel Restrepo and Foreign Minister-designate Omar Bula Escobar.

As Colombia prepares for a new administration to take office on August 7, the suspension of the technical handover process, amid tensions with the outgoing government, has added uncertainty to the final weeks before the inauguration of President-elect Abelardo de la Espriella. The conversation will examine how the incoming administration plans to navigate this moment, advance its economic agenda, and shape Colombia’s foreign policy and relationships with key international partners.

The Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center has been closely tracking Colombia’s elections, including an analysis of de la Espriella’s victory, an issue brief on security priorities informed by the US-Colombia Strategic Alignment Coalition, and public conversations with US senators Bernie Moreno (R-OH) and Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) on the future of US-Colombia relations.

New policy: In-person attendees will be required to show photo ID upon arrival, and no on-site registration will be permitted. Guests will not be admitted later than twenty minutes after the event’s start time.
