Russia and the West are locked in the biggest geopolitical conflict since the Cuban Missile Crisis. Although there is little immediate threat that this conflict will heat up, we must not be content to maintain the status quo in eastern Ukraine, which could have profound implications for the global security system. Evaluating Western Sanctions on Russia examines the impact of the economic sanctions imposed by the European Union and the United States on Russia for its aggression in Ukraine. The report assesses the goals of the sanctions, whether they worked, how they influenced Russia’s foreign policy and economy, and what comes next.

The Atlantic Council invites you to join us for this timely launch with the report’s author Dr. Sergey Aleksashenko of the Brookings Institution, Ms. Lynn Berry of The Associated Press, Mr. David Aufhauser of Williams & Connolly LLP, Ambassador John Herbst of the Atlantic Council, and Ms. Elizabeth Rosenberg of the Center for a New American Security, as they discuss the critical implications of Western sanctions on Russia.
