The Atlantic Council, in cooperation with the European Parliament Liaison Office with the US Congress, is delighted to invite you to an off-the-record roundtable discussion with Mr. Arnaud Danjean, member of the European Parliament (MEP) from France. The discussion will be held on Friday, February 28, from 8:30 – 10:00 a.m.

Mr. Danjean serves as chairman of the Subcommittee on Security and Defence in the European Parliament and as a member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs. He will discuss the outcome of the December 2013 EU Summit in Brussels, which for the first time in five years featured a discussion among EU leaders on closer cooperation on defense capabilities. Mr. Danjean will further provide an outlook on European defense policy and cooperation in the run-up to the September 2014 NATO Summit and against the backdrop of the transition toward a new EU high representative for foreign and security policy, a new European Commission, and a follow-up EU Summit on defense issues in early 2015.

Prior to becoming an MEP, Danjean served in various positions with the French Ministries of Defense and Foreign Affairs as well as the French foreign intelligence service DGSE. He was adviser to the European Union’s high representative for foreign and security policy from 2004 to 2005 and to the French minister for foreign affairs from 2005 to 2007.
