Lead opposition negotiator Dinorah Figuera on Venezuela’s political future

In a virtual conversation with the Atlantic Council, Dinorah Figuera offers her assessment of the political negotiations underway in Venezuela.

On Monday, August 17, from 11:00 to 11:45 a.m. ET/CCS, join the Atlantic Council’s Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center for a virtual conversation with Dinorah Figuera, president of the 2015 National Assembly.

On August 1, formal talks began between Venezuela’s interim government, represented by current National Assembly President Jorge Rodríguez, and a group of legislators from the democratically elected 2015 National Assembly, led by Figuera. Facilitated by the US government, the negotiations are focused on recovering from the earthquakes that struck the country in June, strengthening institutions, and exploring pathways to address Venezuela’s political, economic, and governance challenges.

Figuera will share her assessment of the negotiations, the conditions required for meaningful progress, and the outlook for achieving an agreement.
