Mr. Ishaq Dar
Finance Minister
Government of Pakistan
Moderated by
Dr. Bharath Gopalaswamy
Deputy Director, South Asia Center
Atlantic Council
Please join the Atlantic Council’s South Asia Center for a discussion with Ishaq Dar, finance minister of Pakistan. Several months into a new administration, Pakistan’s economic troubles are far from over. Although Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has made the energy crisis one of his top priorities, energy shortages and circular debt in the energy sector continue to hinder Pakistan. Similarly, financial devolution from the central government to the provincial government has created difficulties in managing the national economy.
Domestic problems are not the only source of economic challenges for Pakistan. Lack of regional economic integration and trade barriers create additional difficulties in Pakistan’s economy. Mr. Dar will discuss these challenges and the way ahead for Pakistan.
