On Tuesday, September 22, at 4:15 p.m. ET, the Atlantic Council’s Transatlantic Security Initiative will host a conversation with José Manuel Albares Bueno, the Spanish minister for foreign affairs, European Union, and cooperation. The event will take place on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York City.

Spain has been an active voice in shaping Europe’s response amid continued instability on the European Union and NATO’s eastern and southern flanks. Madrid sits at the intersection of Europe’s most pressing security questions, and its approach will shape the debate across the transatlantic community.

With wars ongoing in Ukraine and the Middle East and the transatlantic relationship under strain, Minister Albares will discuss Spain’s vision for European security, allied burden-sharing, and the future of the alliance.

New policy: In-person attendees will be required to show photo ID upon arrival, and no on-site registration will be permitted. Guests will not be admitted later than twenty minutes after the event’s start time.
