Please join the Atlantic Council on Monday, September 30, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. for the next event in our Defense-Industrial Policy Series, at which we will launch a new Issue Brief, “Reenergizing Transatlantic Space Cooperation in Security and Beyond“, by Stephen Ganote. The event features keynote remarks by Scott Pace, the Executive Secretary of the US National Space Council and a panel discussion of the report by four distinguished business and government executives. Join in in the Forum at the Atlantic Council’s Headquarters, 1030 15th St. NW, 12th Floor, in Washington, DC.

Ganote’s paper argues that it is time for the United States and Europe to take a fresh look at enhancing and expanding cooperation in space security. Together, the transatlantic Alliance needs to recognize and address challenges to space assurance, and take full advantage of the many changes sweeping the space industry. The paper commends both government and industry leaders on both sides of the Atlantic to focus on three key initiatives:

  • increasing space resiliency through better information sharing and system interoperability;
  • improving space operations through better training and updated doctrine; and
  • strengthening the space supply chain through improved regulations and industrial cooperation.

Coordinated US-European action in these areas will help ensure that space assets will be able to address the growing security threats faced by the transatlantic Alliance.
