The Atlantic Council is delighted to invite you to an off-the-record roundtable discussion with Mr. Gunnar Wiegand, director for Russia, the Eastern Partnership, Central Asia regional cooperation, and the OSCE countries in the European Union’s External Action Service (EEAS). The discussion will be held on Wednesday, January 15 from 5:00 p.m. – 6:15 p.m.

Mr. Wiegand is one of the top EU foreign policy officials dealing with Russia and the Eastern Partnership, and was very much engaged in the planning for the Vilnius summit, including as the chief negotiator of the Association Agreement initialed with Georgia. He will address the path forward after Vilnius, including EU concerns about the challenges facing Moldova and Georgia, and the planning for the EU-Russia summit in late January, as well as the EU-Ukrainian relationship.

Prior to his current position, Mr. Wiegand served as the acting director for Eastern Europe, the Southern Caucasus, and Central Asia in the European Commission’s External Relations Directorate-General from 2007 to 2008 and as head of unit for relations with Russia from 2006 to 2008. He has also served as head of unit for relations with the United States.
