The Atlantic Council and Thomson Reuters invite you to the fourth presentation in our "Power of Transparency" speaker series, featuring Robert Cardillo, Director of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA), for a discussion over lunch from 12:30 – 2 p.m. on Friday, January 13, 2017. A light lunch will be served.
NGA is the Federal agency tasked with providing policymakers, war fighters, intelligence professionals, and first responders with the accurate and timely geospatial intelligence (GEOINT) they require to meet their mission needs. Driven in part by an increasing number of commercial space entrepreneurs, new technology is driving an information revolution in the availability, accuracy, and quantity of geospatial information available in both the classified and unclassified realms. As a result, the geospatial environment grows more transparent, more complex, and more connected by the day.
Decision makers have long relied upon cartographers and geographic experts because they recognized the power of geospatial information in responding to crises and informing strategic decision- making. As the lead agency for charting the future of geospatial intelligence, NGA is helping the entire GEOINT community embrace new technological breakthroughs and develop and enable creative partnerships to further advance the art and science of geospatial intelligence in today’s increasingly interconnected world.
Director Cardillo will shed light on questions like: How can NGA, and by extension the broader Intelligence Community, embrace transparency and the broadening market space as key assets to advance the state of US intelligence? What is the role of public-private partnerships in NGA? What are the toughest challenges facing NGA right now and how can transparency and integration help to solve some of these challenges?
