Despite the current tense atmosphere between the Iranian and American governments, the two countries have a long and robust history of people-to-people engagement including dozens of Americans who served in Iran before the revolution as Peace Corps volunteers. Their experiences can help inform policymakers' plans for a future of less hostile relations and better cultural understanding.
