The Eurasia Center examines how Russia’s strikes are affecting Ukrainians, the overall humanitarian situation, and what challenges lie ahead as the country prepares for the coming months.

On Wednesday, August 19 at 9:00 a.m. ET, the Atlantic Council’s Eurasia Center will host a discussion on Russia’s summer strike campaign against Ukraine’s cities and how the country’s pressing humanitarian needs are evolving.

The United Nations has reported that July 2026 marked the deadliest month for Ukrainian civilians since the first months of Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022. As Russia intensifies its long-range strikes and Ukrainian air defenses dwindle, cities and communities across the country continue to suffer devastating aerial attacks, which are damaging critical infrastructure, homes, and killing civilians. Russia’s bombardment campaign has only further compounded the country’s protracted humanitarian crisis.

This conversation will examine how Russia’s strikes are affecting Ukrainians, the overall humanitarian situation, and what challenges lie ahead as the country prepares for the coming months.
