Massive protests have erupted in Venezuela as citizens express their dissatisfaction with poor economic conditions, increased shortages of basic goods, and high crime rates.

The protests have been met by increased repression from President Nicolás Maduro's government, resulting in more than a dozen deaths, as well the arrest of a key opposition leader, Leopoldo López, and media censorship.

Will the protests yield any policy changes through constitutional and democratic channels? Is there a way forward to reach a resolution? How should the international community respond?
