Ahmed Aboudouh is a nonresident fellow with the Middle East Programs at the Atlantic Council. He is also a senior journalist and writer covering world affairs for The Independent in London. Ahmed focuses on Great Power and US-China competition, and China’s growing role in the Middle East and Gulf region.

Ahmed covered the 2011 Tahrir Square uprising as a correspondent based in Cairo. As a senior editor, he later oversaw the coverage of conflicts in Libya, Yemen, and Syria and wrote extensively about the rise of Isis in Iraq, Syria and the Sinai Peninsula. He has also been studying Great power and the US-China competition, with a specific focus on China’s growing influence in the Middle East and Gulf region.

He holds a Master of Arts in International Relations from the Department of War Studies at King’s College London. His distinction-class dissertation focused on China’s policies in the Gulf region. He is fluent in English and Arabic and speaks little Mandarin.
