Beniamino Irdi is a nonresident senior fellow with the Atlantic Council’s Transatlantic Security Initiative within the Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security. As head of strategic and international affairs at Deloitte Legal Italy, he is responsible for leading the firm’s efforts to assist its clients in assessing the impact of strategic and geopolitical trends on their business.

Previously, Irdi served within the Italian government for seventeen years in various capacities related to foreign affairs and security policy, including as a special advisor to the Italy’s minister of foreign affairs. Over the course of his career, he was posted to Washington, DC, and Tokyo, where he focused on fostering bilateral cooperation between Italy and its allies. During his tenure at the Italian prime minister’s office, he held managerial responsibilities and provided top government officials with analysis and strategy on great power competition, foreign malign influence, and Russia’s war in Ukraine.

Having begun his career as a Middle East analyst, Irdi published a book in Italian on the use of conventional military force against terrorist organizations.

He completed his undergraduate studies in international relations and strategic studies at Rome’s LUISS University and holds a master’s degree in international policy and practice from the Elliott School of International Affairs at George Washington University.
