Deng Liu is a visiting fellow at the Atlantic Council’s Freedom and Prosperity Center and a graduate student in the democracy and governance program at Georgetown University. Originally from Qinhuangdao, mainland China, Deng immigrated to the United States with his mother at the age of seventeen.
Deng earned a bachelor’s degree in political science with a minor in history from the University of California, Irvine. He also studied abroad at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom, where he researched China’s Xinjiang policies and participated in the University of California Washington Center program, where he researched media bias.
Deng earned the Chancellor’s Award of Distinction at the University of California, Irvine, for his work organizing events with numerous student organizations protesting authoritarian measures in China.
