Friedbert Pflüger is a nonresident senior fellow at the Atlantic Council’s Global Energy Center and publishes on topics dealing with energy and climate policy. He is Managing Partner of the Clean Energy Forum (CEF), Managing Director of Pflüger International GmbH, and he also serves as Chairman of the Supervisory Board of DIE GAS UND WASSERSTOFFWIRTSCHAFT e.V. (GWW). Since 2009, Pflüger has hosted a monthly “Energy Talk at the Reichstag.

He is additionally a member of the Advisory Board of the Institute for Climate, Energy and Mobility (IKEM).

Pflüger served as a member of the German Bundestag from 1990 to 2006, including as Chairman of the EU Committee, Foreign Policy Spokesman for the CDU/CSU, and as Deputy Minister of Defence in the first Merkel cabinet (2005 to 2006). He was also guest professor and director at the European Centre for Energy and Resource Security (EUCERS) at King’s College London (2010 to 2022). From 1981 to 1989, he was a close aide to Federal President Richard von Weizsäcker, serving in his final five years as Press Spokesperson and Head of the Speechwriting Group.
