Gavin Walsh is a 2022 Millennium fellow, participant in the 2024 Executive Leadership Intensive, and a senior economist in the US Department of Energy’s Loan Programs Office. Since joining the agency in 2024, Walsh has run the Risk Analytics Team, defining the framework and models used to measure financial risk for all loans.  Before joining the Department of Energy, Walsh spent more than thirteen years at Bridgewater Associates, most recently as the head of portfolio construction, overseeing the daily implementation of positions, trades, and risk management for all funds and strategies across the premier asset manager. From 2015 to 2017, Walsh served as the head of finance and technology for GiveDirectly, a nonprofit focused on putting charitable donations directly into the hands of those experiencing extreme poverty.

A New York native, Walsh holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and psychology from Purchase College, and a master’s degree in quantitative finance from Fordham University. He is also a chartered financial analyst.
