Lieutenant Colonel Justin M. Conelli was the 2022-2023 senior US Air Force fellow at the Atlantic Council’s Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security.
Conelli was the commander of the 724th Operations Support Squadron, which develops and tests special operations tactics, techniques, and procedures across Air Force Special Operations Command and US Special Operations Command. Conelli received his commission from the Air Force Officer Training School in 2003 and worked as a weapons design engineer before cross-training to special tactics in 2005. He has served assignments as an executive officer, flight commander, director of operations, and twice as a squadron commander. He has deployed three times to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and once as a joint task force commander in support of Overseas Contingency Operations.
Conelli received a bachelor of science in aerospace engineering from the University of Colorado, Boulder in 2001 and a master of professional studies in homeland security from Pennsylvania State University in 2014. His awards and decorations include a Bronze Star Medal with the Valor device, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal with device, the Meritorious Service Medal, and the Air Force Commendation Medal with three devices.
