Nikta Khani was an assistant director at the Atlantic Council’s Digital Forensic Research Lab’s Democracy + Tech Initiative where she managed the Taskforce for a Trustworthy Future Web.

Previously, Khani was a researcher at the United States Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs where she investigated the influence of social media platforms’ business models, algorithms, and advertising practices on extremism in the United States. Khani was a staffer for US Representative Katie Porter and a staffer for Elizabeth Warren’s presidential campaign and senate office.

Prior to her time on Capitol Hill, Khani was a counterterrorism researcher at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health where she evaluated initiatives to reduce recidivism among released violent extremists.
