On April 22, Matthew Kroenig, vice president and senior director of the Scowcroft Center, was interviewed on FP Live on what US foreign policy may look like under a future Republican administration. He discusses We Win, They Lose: Republican Foreign Policy & the New Cold War, his new book with Dan Negrea, and outlines their thesis of an emerging “Trump-Reagan” fusion in Republican foreign policy, as well as how it could be applied to strategic competition.
What is the goal for the current competition with China?…We think that the answer is ‘we win, they lose,’ which we define as getting to a place where China no longer has the ability or the will to threaten America’s vital interests. It doesn’t mean China as a country has to lose, it just means that the current aggressive strategy of Xi Jinping has to lose.
