Nonresident Senior Fellow Richard LeBaron traveled to Detroit this week for “Diplomacy Begins Here: Detroit,” a conference sponsored by the US State Department aimed at broadening understanding of foreign policy across the country:

Business and political stakeholders in Detroit met last week for a conference called “Diplomacy Begins Here: Detroit”. The event was one of eight across the nation. It was sponsored by the U.S. State Department, International Visitors Council of Detroit and Global Ties U.S.. 

The idea is to broaden the understanding of U.S. public diplomacy, foreign policy and the importance of exchange programs in the global community and marketplace. Stephen Henderson speaks with Jennifer Clinton, President of Global Ties USAmbassador Richard LeBaron, former U.S. Ambassador to Kuwait and founding Coordinator of theU.S. Center for Strategic Counterterrorism Communications, andMarian Reich, Executive Director of International Visitors Council Detroit about why Detroit was chosen as one of the eight cities and how the city can position itself in the world of international diplomacy.
