On March 20, 2023, Global China Hub Nonresident Fellow Tuvia Gering was quoted in Radio Free Asia, discussing China’s pivot to becoming a leader in mediating in the Middle East. He stated: “In the mediation of regional conflicts, China tends to play the role of follower [or] facilitator rather than leader. This time it is surprising that China not only leads but also successfully mediates international disputes without the presence of the United States.”
