On July 25, 2023, Nonresident fellow Wen-Ti Sung was quoted in Voice of America on China’s attempts to influence Taiwanese elections through intimidation, stating: “Since this is a presidential campaign year, if Beijing follows this reasoning, they will likely resort to condemnation and perhaps some form of symbolic suspension of dialogue or economic sanctions on selected commodities.”
