On October 13, IPSI Senior Fellow Dexter Tiff Roberts published an article titled, “No, China isn’t throwing the doors open again,“ in The China Project. Roberts discusses the prospects of China’s economic growth recovery, to which Xi Jinping’s leadership, turnover among other senior officials, and China’s COVID-zero policy all present obstacles. On October 24, Roberts was quoted in Politico on Xi’s preference for a command economy, and on October 28, he wrote an article titled, “After the 20th Party Congress, private business is running scared.” In this article, Roberts remarks that Xi is more skeptical of the private sector and warning entrepreneurs of disastrous consequences should they choose to trumpet Western capitalistic ideology.
