Austin’s appearance at an Atlantic Council forum was only his second news media event since taking over Central Command in March 2013.
The general said the other major conflict in his command, Afghanistan, “is somewhat of a good news story” because the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) are “managing to keep the level of violence comparatively low,” and “I do believe they can be successful going forward.”
