Mark Temnycky is a nonresident fellow with the Atlantic Council’s Eurasia Center. He is also a senior geopolitics contributor at Forbes, and a part-time adjunct professor at Loyola University Chicago’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies. He was a defense contractor for nearly seven years, where he provided contract support to various divisions within the US Department of Defense’s Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment.
Temnycky has also been an accredited freelance journalist covering American, European, and Eurasian national security, foreign policy, energy security, defense policy, politics, sports, and economics for over a decade. His articles have been published by various American and European news outlets, including The New York Times, Forbes, the Daily Mail, The Hill, Newsweek, Euronews, EUobserver, Defense News, and the Kyiv Post. He has also written for think tanks such as the Atlantic Council, the Wilson Center, the Center for European Policy Analysis, the Modern War Institute, and the Center for Maritime Strategy.
Temnycky’s articles have been referenced and shared by the European Parliament, the NATO Library, the NATO Cooperative Cyber Defense Center of Excellence, the NATO Energy Security Centre of Excellence, the NATO Civil-Military Cooperation Centre of Excellence, the US Army, the Helsinki Commission, the RAND Corporation, The Washington Post, Radio Free Europe, and other American and European government agencies, non-governmental organizations, think tanks, and news outlets. He has been interviewed by organizations such as FIFA, CNN, the BBC, the Reuters Global Markets Forum, France 24, Deutsche Welle, Yahoo Finance, L’Équipe, LiveNOW from Fox News, Newsweek, Business Insider, and Al Jazeera English. He has been on podcasts with The Telegraph, Voice of America, Chatham House, the Carnegie Council, Razom for Ukraine, Silicon Curtain, and New Eastern Europe. Temnycky has guest lectured on Eurasian affairs at institutions such as the US Military Academy, National Defense University, Harvard University, Columbia University, and New York University. He has been recognized by the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, the Ukrainian World Congress, the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, the International Sports Press Association, and Le Moyne College for his coverage of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
From November 2021 to March 2024, he was invited to discuss US-Ukraine, US-NATO, and US-Russia relations with senior officials from the White House, National Security Council, US Department of Defense, and US Department of State. Since 2024, Temnycky has spoken with Members of Congress on these issues. Then, in February 2025, he was the lead author of a US Military Academy report on Russia’s war in Ukraine and its impact on American and European national security for the Office of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. This report was also distributed to the NATO Secretary General’s office.
Temnycky holds a Master of Public Administration and a Master of Arts in International Relations from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in History, with Departmental Honors, from Le Moyne College, and he has a Certificate in International Relations from Georgetown University.
