The Middle East has enormous potential as a central node in global markets. Now, a series of new trade, energy, and digital corridors are emerging that are establishing the region’s leadership role in the economy of the future. Instability in the Middle East is creating short-term impediments to these corridors, but that instability only reinforces the strategic importance of the corridors over the long term. Initiatives like the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) provide a valuable platform for the complex cross-country and public-private coordination these corridors demand. These initiatives also communicate sustained political will amid regional turbulence. But IMEC must also adapt to changing regional dynamics and remain an agile, results-focused initiative.
The Atlantic Council’s Project on Middle East Integration is committed to helping build a shared vision for strategic corridors that build Middle East connectivity and providing the convening power and action-oriented research necessary to translate that vision into tangible progress on the ground.
