On Thursday, July 30, at 10:00 a.m. ET, the Atlantic Council’s Adrienne Arsht National Security Resilience Initiative in the Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security and the Iraq Initiative in the Middle East Programs will host a “Reporters at risk” event on the challenges correspondents face in Iraq.
Journalists in Iraq operate in one of the world’s most difficult media environments, facing pressure from armed groups, state-backed actors, and state and local authorities in federal Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. Independent reporters have been subjected to intimidation, arbitrary detention, violence, and assassination.
This event will feature correspondents assessing the risks reporters face in Iraq and what can be done to protect its free press.
New policy: In-person attendees will be required to show photo ID upon arrival, and no on-site registration will be permitted. Guests will not be admitted later than twenty minutes after the event’s start time.
