Please join the Atlantic Council Global Energy Center on Thursday, September 12th from 10:00 am to 11:15 am ET for a virtual, private, and off-the-record discussion on U.S. hydrogen hubs and US – Sweden cooperation in Hydrogen.
The discussion will feature key stakeholders from various US hydrogen hubs, concentrating on policy incentives, underlying production potential, and, critically, plans for viable offtakers. This workshop will be entirely virtual: participants will join virtually via Zoom.
The meeting will convene key stakeholders from US hydrogen hubs; the public sector, at both the national and subnational levels; industry leaders; and key experts.
U.S. hydrogen hubs are in a dynamic period, with tremendous potential – but also several key challenges. DOE funding has been released more slowly than many anticipated; few projects have taken positive final investment decision; sufficient carbon capture rates for blue H2 at economic prices remains elusive; and the US grid is still 60 percent fossil at a national level, constraining its green hydrogen potential. Yet despite these significant challenges, clean hydrogen still holds considerable potential. Hydrogen is the most viable candidate for several hard-to-abate sectors, while technological progress continues to proceed apace. Importantly, many localities have clean grids, abundant feedstock potential, and a firm commitment to decarbonization. Clean hydrogen faces challenges, but several US hydrogen hubs could lead the way and realize the technology’s potential.
Please join us as we explore the U.S. hydrogen hubs, diving into their unique characteristics in market fundamentals, policy support, production, and potential offtakers. The discussion will also feature considerable involvement from the Swedish hydrogen ecosystem, perhaps the world’s leading market for green hydrogen.
This is a private, off-the-record event under Chatham House rules. Please join this conversation via the web application Zoom, which is accessible through your web browser, the Zoom desktop or mobile app, and by phone.
