Please join the Scowcroft Center’s Forward  Defense program for the latest installment of our Commanders Series, “A conversation with Secretary Frank Kendall on modernizing the US Air and Space Forces.”

Generously supported by Saab, this event will take place on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, from 3:30 to 4:15 p.m. ET virtually over Zoom. Register using the form on the right.

While air and space dominance have historically underpinned US military operations, the Joint Force and its allies and partners can no longer rely on this premise as they now fly in contested skies. With commercial innovation creating new opportunities and dilemmas in the air and space domains, the US Department of the Air Force now faces a race for technological superiority with China, which continues to modernize its air and space forces to project power in the Indo-Pacific region.

Against this backdrop, how can the US Department of the Air Force best equip and support US Airmen and Guardians to succeed in twenty-first century security competition with China? Secretary of the US Air Force Frank Kendall’s seven operational imperatives, announced in 2022, provide a vision for optimizing the US Air and Space Forces with effective capabilities to prevail in an era of strategic competition. This event will feature Secretary Kendall expanding upon these imperatives and assessing the Department’s progress toward ensuring warfighting readiness for future air and space warfare.

Join us on October 10 as Secretary of the US Air Force The Hon. Frank Kendall, in conversation with NBC News’ Courtney Kube, discusses the challenges and opportunities that lay ahead for the US Air Force as the department postures to prevail against an increasingly assertive Chinese military force.

We hope you can join us for this important and timely discussion. To receive the virtual Zoom link, please complete the registration form on the right-hand side of the screen.
