In October 2023, the White House issued a landmark Executive Order on artificial intelligence (AI) with the goal of establishing new standards for AI safety and security while increasing cooperation with allies, partners, and the private sector. In the following months, allied governments delivered a range of AI governance efforts to advance responsible innovation, from the UK AI Safety Summit to the Hiroshima AI Process. Similarly, several prominent technology companies have signed a voluntary commitment to the responsible development and use of AI technologies.
However, as the AI global landscape continues to rapidly develop, further cooperation between the US, its allies and partners, and industry is vital to the development of AI systems that are responsible, equitable, and resilient.
Across four panels and associated remarks, this 3.5-hour event will focus on activating AI to advance diplomacy and balancing innovation and ideals amidst the technology’s profound impact on global affairs. Aiming to bridge the gap between technological development, national security, and diplomacy, this event highlights how AI can be harnessed to enhance international cooperation and address pressing challenges. Participants will explore the ethical implications, policy frameworks, and strategic initiatives necessary to ensure that AI development aligns with shared values and promotes global stability. Esteemed panelists will include current and former senior US government officials, foreign dignitaries, and prominent leaders from the private sector.
This invitation-only event will take place at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC. Due to enhanced security measures, all guests will need to bring a government-issued ID to gain access to the event.
