As the global community continues to grapple with the coronavirus (COVID-19), the Atlantic Council is open for business. Our business, meetings, and events, however, are occurring virtually. For more information, please read an update from our President and CEO.

Please join the Atlantic Council’s Asia Security Initiative, housed within the Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security, for a virtual public panel discussion on opportunities for deepening integration of the US Indo-Pacific Strategy and ROK New Southern Policy, scheduled for December 10, 2020 from 6:30-7:30 PM (EST) / December 11, 2020 8:30-9:30 AM (KST).

This event will feature Marc Knapper, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Korea and Japan, Yunju Ko, ROK Ministry of Foreign Affairs Director-General for North American Affairs, and Miyeon Oh, Director of the Asia Security Initiative and author of the upcoming report, Beyond the Peninsula: Prospects for US-ROK Regional Cooperation Under New Southern Policy and Indo-Pacific Strategy. The discussion will examine the structure of the Republic of Korea’s New Southern Policy and how it maps onto that of the US Indo-Pacific Strategy in order to explore how the Republic of Korea and the United States have approached cooperative efforts to date and to what extent those efforts can be developed further. Ultimately, the panel will seek to assess further opportunities for deepening policy coordination in ways that harness the two countries’ comparative strengths in Southeast Asia and beyond.
