On Tuesday, November 10, at 3:00 p.m. ET, the Atlantic Council’s Transatlantic Security Initiative will host a book launch for Undersea War: The Battle to Control the Cables and Pipelines that Connect our World by Elisabeth Braw.
In Undersea War, Braw—a senior fellow with the Transatlantic Security Initiative, Foreign Policy columnist, and Sky News national security commentator—examines the growing threats to the undersea cables and pipelines that underpin global communications, energy supplies, and economic stability. Following decades of relative stability, incidents such as the 2022 Baltic Sea pipeline explosions, the severing of communications cables near Taiwan, and further disruptions to Baltic infrastructure have exposed the vulnerability of these critical networks.
Drawing on the historical and contemporary security challenges analyzed in her book, Braw will explore how the ocean floor is becoming an increasingly contested domain in global geopolitical competition.
