The Atlantic Council’s Transatlantic Security Initiative, in the Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security, hosted a public event revisiting the legacy of NATO as well as the challenges and opportunities facing the Alliance as we celebrate this landmark anniversary. This event took place on Thursday, April 4, at 9:30 a.m. ET / 3:30 p.m. CET, both in-person at the Atlantic Council headquarters and virtually.

April 4, 2024, marks 75 years since 12 countries signed the Washington Treaty, which established the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). This is a moment to celebrate the world’s largest and most successful military alliance, but also a time to take stock of the geopolitical turbulence facing the transatlantic community and transformation needed to ensure NATO and its constituent members are fit-for-purpose in an era of increasing strategic competition.

This event is part of the Transatlantic Security Initiative’s 2024 NATO Washington Summit campaign. For more information and updates on future events and publications, follow @ACScowcroft.

This event was livestreamed on Atlantic Council TV, YouTube, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter).
