On Tuesday, October 15 at 4:30 p.m. ET, the Atlantic Council will host an in-person #ACFrontPage conversation featuring Ukrainian human-rights lawyer Oleksandra Matviichuk, head of the Center for Civil Liberties and 2022 Nobel Peace Prize awardee, to discuss ongoing threats to democracy and the worldwide gathering of authoritarian forces—and how those topics converge in Ukraine. This fireside chat will be moderated by NBC News Congressional Correspondent Julie Tsirkin.
Since Russia’s large-scale invasion, Matviichuk has worked to document Russia’s war crimes and spread global awareness of the Kremlin’s wider illegal actions in Ukraine and beyond. And as the Russian military continues to kill Ukrainian citizens, target Ukrainian infrastructure, and kidnap Ukraine’s children, the Kremlin is also continuing to build its dangerous authoritarian partnerships with Iran, China, and North Korea.
Matviichuk will discuss key questions, including what steps the global community should take to bring Russia’s military to justice for war crimes it committed in Ukraine; the threats Russia’s growing partnerships with China, Iran, and North Korea pose; and how Ukraine’s Western allies can best ensure Ukraine’s peace, sovereignty, and security.
This edition of #ACFrontPage, hosted by the Atlantic Council’s Eurasia Center, will take place in person at the Atlantic Council studios in Washington, DC. In-person attendance is limited and will be granted on a first-come, first-served basis through registration. The event will also be livestreamed on Atlantic Council TV, YouTube, Facebook, and X. To join us in person or virtually, please complete the registration form.
