As the global community continues to grapple with the coronavirus (COVID-19), the Atlantic Council is open for business. Our business, meetings, and events, however, are occurring virtually. For more information, please read an update from our President and CEO.

Given the stunning Taliban takeover in Afghanistan—and its humanitarian, geopolitical and economic implications —the Atlantic Council is convening an extraordinary, albeit optional, meeting of the Atlantic Council’s top leaders: board directors, International Advisory Board members, and key partners.

Please join us virtually on Thursday, August 19, 9:00-10:00 a.m. ET, as we, alongside so many others across the United States, the transatlantic community, and the world, make sense of events in Afghanistan and contemplate the potential scenarios going forward.

Steve Hadley, former US National Security Advisor and Executive Vice Chair of our board, will join Michael Morell, former Deputy Director and Acting Director of the CIA and Executive Committee member, and Melanne Verveer, first United States Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women’s Issues, in kicking us off with their own observations. We hope to make this an interactive and engaging “town hall-like” session, drawing on the extensive range of expertise in our community.

Please note that this conversation is closed to the press, off-the-record, and your invitation is non-transferable. If you plan to call in via telephone please contact gcranstoncuebas@atlanticcouncil.org in advance.
