The March 2019 presidential election is a pivotal event in Ukraine’s history. Outside attempts to influence the elections have been documented, particularly by the Kremlin, which has employed a full-range of hybrid tactics in Ukraine in an effort to destabilize the country.
Recognizing the high stakes, the Atlantic Council, the Victor Pinchuk Foundation, and the Transatlantic Commission on Election Integrity established the Ukrainian Election Task Force. Working with other Ukrainian institutions and analysts–StopFake, Razumkov Centre, and Detector Media–the Task Force is a rapid-response team with the ability to monitor, evaluate, and disclose the full range of foreign subversive activities in Ukraine and to propose suitable responses.
By exposing foreign interference as it occurs leading up to the run-off election on April 21, 2019, the Atlantic Council, the Victor Pinchuk Foundation, and the Transatlantic Commission on Election Integrity hope to provide Ukrainians with the necessary tools to check outside efforts to influence their vote, to establish the facts, and to cast their ballots for a better future for Ukraine.
The Atlantic Council’s Eurasia Center hosts two panels on this election. The first panel features key experts who analyze the round one results and explain what to expect for the next round. During our second panel, the Task Force offers its take on interference efforts we have seen thus far during the presidential election cycle.
