Fatima Salman was the Associate Director of the Atlantic Council’s South Asia Center, where she contributed to the Center’s policy research initiatives and manages programmatic tasks. Previously, Fatima was an Analyst at The Asia Group, where she supported the firm’s South Asia practice. Drawing on her experience living and working in India, Fatima brings a deep understanding of the region based on both her professional and personal experiences in the country. In 2018, Fatima completed her Boren Fellowship in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, where she studied Urdu and Hindi. She has an academic, policy, and field-level understanding of humanitarian and human rights principles and experience engaging with civil society, business, and government in complex, multi-stakeholder environments.

Fatima holds a Master of Science in Foreign Service with a focus in global politics and security from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service. Her research interests at Georgetown included U.S. and Chinese foreign policy toward South Asia. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and History and a Minor in Middle East/South Asia Studies from the University of California, Davis. Fatima is conversational in Spanish and Punjabi, and is fluent in Hindi and Urdu.
