Roya Rahmani is a senior advisor at the Atlantic Council’s South Asia Center. She also has over twenty years of experience working with governments, nongovernmental organizations, and the private sector. She currently serves as a distinguished fellow at Georgetown University’s Global Institute for Women Peace and Security, and as the chair of Delphos International LTD, a global financial advisory firm based in Washington, DC.

Rahmani was the first woman to serve as Afghanistan’s ambassador to the United States and held the role from 2018 to 2021. She was also the first woman to serve as Afghanistan’s ambassador to Indonesia, serving from 2016 to 2018.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in software engineering from McGill University and a master’s degree in public administration from Columbia University.
