Thayz Guimarães is a nonresident fellow in the Atlantic Council’s Global China Hub as well as a Brazilian multimedia journalist with over ten years of experience. Her work focuses on China, defense, international security, and geopolitics. She is also a former participant in the US State Department’s International Visitor Leadership Program. She used to work for O Globo, a leading newspaper in Brazil.

In 2025, Guimarães was awarded the Brazilian Navy’s prestigious “Tamandaré Medal of Merit” and, in 2024, the Brazilian Navy’s “Friend of the Navy Medal” for her reporting on maritime power in Brazil. She holds a BA in journalism and an MA in communication studies from State University of Rio de Janeiro.
