The Next Africa authors Jake Bright and Aubrey Hruby are two well-informed, influential policy wonks and business consultants focusing on all the new opportunities in the 54 countries in the continent of Africa, which is larger than the USA, China and India combined. The authors focus on the 48 countries in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) where most of the technological innovation and entrepreneurial businesses are located. They point out that South Africa remains the first nation on the continent to industrialize on the prevalent Western model with the most modern infrastructure but has been deeply flawed by apartheid. It still has SSA’s largest stock market capitalization, most heavily traded currency, highest sovereign credit rating, one of the continent’s strongest middle classes and attracts the highest value of foreign investment.
