Bloomberg quotes Rafik Hariri Center Nonresident Senior Fellow Mohsin Khan on how the deteriorating economic situation in Yemen could lead to an even worse political crisis:

It will be tough to reach political solutions on the future of Yemen “if the economy is progressively worsening,” said Mohsin Khan, a senior fellow at the Atlantic Council’s Rafik Hariri Center for the Middle East.

The deteriorating fiscal situation “is a recipe for major protests, major upheaval and feeds into the terrorism issue,” said Khan, who headed the Middle East and Central Asia department at the International Monetary Fund in 2003-2008.
