Summit for Democracy

On December 8-10, the United States will convene the first Summit for Democracy including hundreds of countries around the world. Support for democracy is a conceptual centerpiece of US President Joe Biden’s foreign-policy strategy, and the Summit is designed to galvanize a “race to the top” among countries to promote human rights, address corruption, and counter authoritarianism with technology’s role in society a common issue throughout. While the many challenges facing democracies will not be solved in the course of a two-day summit, the meeting is intended create action and work to bolster democratic values the world over.
