#AJTrial: Inside the Courtroom

On April 22, Cairo’s Criminal Court adjourned the trial of 20 journalists – among them Al Jazeera’s Peter Greste, Mohamed Fahmy, and Baher Mohamed – on charges of aiding a terrorist group. The trial has been adjourned to May 3

Several journalists were in the court room during the sixth session of the trial, livetweeting the proceedings. Video footage, photographs, documents and audio recordings were presented during the trial, allegedly showing that the journalists had doctored their reports. This was said to be the final opportunity for the prosecution to present its evidence.

Journalists were temporarily removed from the courtroom after being told not to speak with or take photos of the defendants during the recess. They were granted entry to the courtroom once again, only after promising not to speak to the defendants.
