The primary purpose of Iran’s arsenal of conventional missiles has been to deter an Israeli attack. However, the program has been developing steadily in recent years, gaining both range and accuracy. With more accurate missiles, Tehran could plan limited attacks to achieve strategic objectives in the region, without inviting massive and swift retribution by Washington. How could Iran take advantage of its potentially enhanced missile capabilities while averting direct war with the United States, and how can the United States and its regional partners counter Iran’s political-military aims?

To address these questions and other Iran-related policy matters, the Atlantic Council’s Brent Scowcroft Center on International Security invites you to an expert panel discussion with Kelsey Davenport, director for nonproliferation policy at the Arms Control Association; Michael Elleman, consulting senior fellow for missile defense at the Institute for International Strategic Studies; Zalmay Khalilzad, Atlantic Council board director and president of Gryphon Partners; Bilal Y. Saab, senior fellow and director of the Middle East Peace and Security Initiative at the Brent Scowcroft Center on International Security at the Atlantic Council; and Admiral John W. Miller (Ret.), former commander of the US Fifth Fleet. Saab and Elleman will be launching their new paper on the subject, entitled Precision Fire: A Strategic Assessment of Iran’s Conventional Missile Program
