The Telegraph quotes Brent Scowcroft Center Deputy Director Daniel Chiu on whether the United Kingdom plans to increase its defense spending and US reaction:

Daniel Chiu, the Pentagon’s former deputy assistant secretary of defense for strategy now at the Atlantic Council, said that US defence cuts had focused Pentagon minds on the need for allies to have real capabilities to deliver in the field – particularly with an ally as close as the UK.

“The biggest concern is about UK land forces – not so much about maintaining numbers, but concerns over whether the force is frayed so much that it can’t be reconstituted in a timely and effective manner if the need arises.”
