Independent Journal Review quotes South Asia Center Nonresident Senior Fellow Barbara Slavin and Brent Scowcroft Center Nonresident Senior Fellow Matthew Kroenig on the recent reports that Iran will conduct its own inspections of nuclear facilities, discrediting the allegations:
In concurrence was Barbara Slavin, a senior fellow at the Atlantic Council, who felt the Associated Press “hyped the story,” telling IJReview:
“We’ve got this agreement that has so much importance, that is meant to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons for at least a decade and the opponents of the deal are flailing around trying to find something that they can pin on Iran so that you know, somehow they’ll get a miraculous two-thirds majority in Congress against this deal.”
In addition to Logan and Slavin’s comments, Matthew Kroenig, a senior fellow at the Atlantic Council said “it was never confusing,” telling Independent Journal Review:
“…for the people following closely it’s been clear that the declared facilities have had International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) international inspectors there for many years. Their presence and frequency of visits under the interim deal struck a year and a half ago, increased. And so it was clear that as part of the comprehensive deal that that process was going to continue at the declared facilities.”
Kroenig added:
“The idea that it’s just Iranians going in, gathering pieces of evidence, and then providing that to the IAEA is new.”
