US Secretary of State John Kerry’s recent visit hailed the Egyptian military-backed roadmap as a means to achieve a more stable democratic path, but in his search for a concrete measuring stick by which to judge Egypt’s transition, he ignores the two most destabilizing aspects of the current transition: the crackdown on the Muslim Brotherhood and role of the military and security state in the post-Morsi era.
