From AFP: The NATO-led international security force in Afghanistan should appoint a senior civilian official to help improve political and development coordination, UN chief Ban Ki-moon said in a report released Monday.

The report also stressed the need to beef up the international coordination structure in the war-torn country “under a United Nations umbrella.”

Ban said naming a top civilian official within the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) “would help to improve coordination of its political and development efforts, in particular by the provincial reconstruction teams, so as to ensure their greater adherence to Afghan plans and priorities across provincial borders.” (photo: AP)
